January will be a BIG month at Belle Demeure

Hello everyone!  In first life, Hex and I had a quiet Christmas with my daughter and her dad.  We didn't even put the tree up til Christmas Eve, which suited me just fine.  It'll come down by New Years, which also suits me.  Christmas Day, we went out to dinner at a diner about 30 miles from home.  It was really pretty impressive, so I suspect we'll be headed there for future holiday dinners.  (In case anyone wonders-- yes, we cook.  We even cook well.  But why bother when someone else can do the clean-up at a restaurant?) In less wonderful news, Hex is temporarily unemployed because of the US government shutdown.  For a while at least, that won't affect our inworld expenditures and activities.  If it reaches a point where it does, we'll still be around but doing things differently. Now for inworld news!  Before December ends, I will be giving two more performances of my concert, A Winter Celebration, and there will be a New Year's Eve ball at Belle Demeure

Shakespeare Circle: The Bard and The Bear? The Winter's Tale, Part 1

Image
Considered both comedy and romance, The Winter's Tale contains The Bard's most famous (and challenging?) stage direction: "Exit, pursued by a bear."  Join us in Second Life to listen to the play and find out what that's about! The Shakespeare Circle at Belle Demeure is pleased to present The Winter's Tale by William Shakespeare in December and January. We'll listen to and discuss Acts 1-3 December 8 at 6 PM SLT. We'll finish the play on January 12. The production is a pre-recorded audio play in the public domain. Discussion will be concurrent and following. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Bushside/225/88/54

Belle Demeure News December 2018

Image
Hello friends!  In first life, Hex and I are well into the throes of a Florida winter, meaning I had to wear socks yesterday.  I am happy to report that, In SL, no socks are required and I could wear flip flops every single day if my fashionably manicured avatarian feet did not scream for haute couture.  Of course, there are parts of SL where it is always winter, but, here, at Belle Demeure, it is eternal spring.  I do hope you'll drop by this month to feel the warmth and to see the holiday display in the main salon at the chateau.  Of course, I encourage you to to take in an event or two here as well.  We have quite a lot going on this month.  As always, you are invited.  I hope you'll start by attending IanLee Patton's art exhibit, opening December 2, at our Frostbite-Thane Gallery.  Ian is a well-established artist in his first life, as well as SL. I am sure you'll appreciate his work as much as I.  Later in the month, we'll have a Shakespeare Circle event and

IanLee Patton Exhibit Opening At Belle Demeure: Anime and Fantasy Art

Sunday, Dec. 2, 1 PM SLT (SLURL: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Bushside/182/165/58) Frostbite-Thane Gallery at Belle Demeure is proud to announce the grand opening celebration for IanLee Patton's newest art show. Anime and fantasy style artwork and illustrations influenced by eastern design concepts and principles. Ian has shown his RL art on prim for over 12 years in second life. He has had galleries and shows at most major art sims and events and has been a virtual curator himself, showing 4 SL artists a month. Just last year he had a RL exhibition at a local gallery which went well and is hoping to display at comicons next. He is currently working on a fantasy board game, created from scratch. Illustrating all board pieces, cards and character art. The real challenge will be making 3D printed models for characters and monsters. 3D design is a new challenge but one which will also be shown in second life in a year or so. Ian is looking for a benefactor to allow him

Belle Demeure News November and December 2018

Greetings, Everyone!  We are entering that time of year when much of the western and some of the eastern world loses its collective mind.  Why, of why, do we try to cram so much into six short weeks?  Having asked the question, I have to admit I plan to add to the mayhem that the season of winter holidays can become.  In first life and in SL, I like to plan events for this season.  Here's hoping you like attending and that you have managed to keep some time available to do so.  Opening:  The Art of IanLee Patton Sunday, December 2 1 PM - 2:30 PM SLT Frostbite-Thane Gallery @ Belle Demeure Ouest Ian is an inventive and modern graphic artist.  His work reflects his personality (which is a good thing, FTR) and his interests.  This is not his fist show in SL or even his first show hosted by Frostbite Thane.  His work will hang for several weeks, so we hope you'll come back time and again.  ---------------------------------- Shakespeare Circle: The Winter's Tale by W

Time For A New Poem

Image
Time For A New Poem By Stephanie Mesler (aka Freda Frostbite) This is me, writing a new poem because it's time to commit poesy.  I know it is, because it's marked in my day planner.  2 PM on Monday afternoon--- "write a new poem."  It's not even in pencil.  I've inked it in between an appointment with the oncologist and tea with my great Aunt, who will, no doubt arrive on time with a bottle of something sharp to add to the tea, so I'd better get started.  She tells me the poem will be payment for her company.  So I am writing...a poem?...sort of.  Or maybe it's just an essay, a plain old boring essay about how poems do not submit to scheduling, no matter how determined the poet.  But no, this has to be a poem... doesn't it?  Because poems are about fleeting things, thoughts and feelings, colors, and odors...aren't they? Of course, sometimes they are about deep things, like water and philosophy, but in a poem, even broad subjects are to be

Another Era

Times change, the wheel turns, and sometimes we end up back where we started.  About 10 months ago, I decided I needed a break from all things virtual.  There were three factors that drove that choice.  I have some real life health concerns that needed my attention; There's a family and home I needed to give some focus.  And there was a need to show myself that I could still do in the solid world, the one with air to breathe and water that's wet, at least some of what I had started to do exclusively in the virtual sphere.  I needed to know that I've still got it .  I spent those 10 months healthifying (as much as I could be healthified), strengthening connections in my community, attending live concerts, visiting museums, getting my home more tidy than it's been in a while.  I also joined a church choir and am about to join the church.  I started singing solos for church services and have begun the search for other musical opportunities in my community. Nine months
